In the core of our soul is our Essence. James Hillman calls it our Blueprint. Discovering our Essence is an arduous quest. There are questions to wrestle with, disintegrations to endure and creations to make room for. No words are adequate for describing this process of discovering who we are in our core. A poem from 2019 is the best I could do at the time. It still rings true for me.
Who dwells in the heart of me
If not merely the Wounded Child
If not merely the Mother Hero
Who dwells in the heart of me
If not merely a placeholder for past selves
A grave for who was
Who is essential me
The core piece without which
I cease to be
Hide and Seek
Ready or Not
Here I Come
Come you Army of Midwives
Come help me be born anew
Attend to the essence coming into light
From deep places of Mystery
This video from the "Burning Man" festival somehow captures what I want to share. I’ve never been to “Burning Man” but I resonate with the passionate freedom I see in this video. The freedom to express ourselves down to the seed and bone of who we are! Grace to you as we shift into a new year.
How are you discovering the seed and bone of who you are?
